About

Jennifer Smith is an artist from Plymouth, Massachusetts.  She received her BA in studio art from Saint Louis University in 2022, with a dual emphasis in graphic design and drawing and a minor in integrated strategic communication. After graduation, Jennifer worked as a digital art teacher at a private school. She has also freelanced as a graphic designer and illustrator. Jennifer is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in drawing at Clemson University, where she serves as a teaching and research assistant.

In her studio practice, Jennifer works both digitally and traditionally, creating figurative drawings and animations. Her work discusses the tradition of the female figure in art and questions how art can impact our attitudes toward women. Having grown up in a world of mass visual consumption, where online exploitation of women is prevalent and readily accessible, Jennifer urges viewers to think critically about the messages that they are consuming or producing.

Jennifer wants to pursue a career in higher education or gallery work. She is also interested in illustration, animation, storyboarding, commercial art, graphic design, and art direction.

During her time at Saint Louis University, she was a member of the design team for OneWorld Magazine, a student run publication that focuses on social justice issues. Jennifer was also involved with Tidy Projects, a student lead graphic design team that makes quality work for both on and off campus clients. She also interned for Weber Shandwick as a Media Genius Fellow, where she conducted research on various online communities.
